Bob Dylan Lashes Out At Critics With Some Bad Words

Bob Dylan is famous for many things—brining a literary slant to popular music, galvanizing pop culture in general, writing several classic records and songs, folding multiple musical genres into the rock ‘n roll format, etc. He’s also known for being just a tad crotchety. So it should come as no surprise that in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, while discussing his critics, he would refer to them as, well, “wussies,” “pussies,” and “motherf***ers.” Read on for the details.

While promoting his new album, Tempest, Dylan submitted himself to an interview with Rolling Stone, and the issue of plagiarism came up—Dylan notoriously stole lines from Civil War-era poet Henry Timrod for his 2001 album Love and Theft, and cribbed from Japanese author Junichi Sage on his 2006 album Modern Times. When asked about the controversy that came from him borrowing from other artists, Dylan had this to say:

As far as Henry Timrod is concerned, have you even heard of him? Who’s been reading him lately? And who’s pushed him to the forefront? Who’s been making you read him? And ask his descendants what they think of the hoopla. And if you think it’s so easy to quote him and it can help your work, do it yourself and see how far you can get. Wussies and pussies complain about that stuff.

Dylan didn’t stop there. He even reached back to note those critics he had in the 1960s, who infamously booed him in 1966 when he began playing electric rock ‘n roll. During one famous show in England, a fan even screamed out “Judas!” just as Dylan began playing “Like a Rolling Stone”:

These are the same people that tried to pin the name Judas on me. Judas, the most hated name in human history!…If you think you’ve been called a bad name, try to work your way out from under that. Yeah, and for what? For playing an electric guitar? As if that is in some kind of way equitable to betraying our Lord and delivering him up to be crucified. All those evil mother***ers can rot in hell.

So there you have folks—Bob Dylan, just as warm and cuddly as ever.
