This hasn’t exactly been rapper Beanie Sigel’s (a.k.a. Dwight Grant) year—it’s bad enough that the rapper was previously busted for tax evasion, for which he was found guilty, and is set to report to prison on September 12th for a two year sentence. But, unfortunately for Sigel, it looks like some additional time will be added to his term, as he was just busted for possession of a gun, codeine syrup, and marijuana. Whoops.
Apparently, Sigel was in a car (he wasn’t driving) that was pulled over at approximately 3:15 AM on Wednesday morning in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The car, a tan Ford Fusion, was pulled over on the I-95 for “swerving lanes and tailing another vehicle too closely.” A routine police check located several prescription medication bottles and a small amount of marijuana on the driver; Sigel himself was holding $4,650 in cash, with a bottle of codeine syrup, as well as several prescription pills bound inside plastic bags that were held inside a cigarette box.
But that’s not all—later, a gun was found in the center console of the vehicle—which is kind of a no-no, seeing as how both men are convicted felons and it is illegal for either of them to possess a firearm.
Sigel was arrested and bail was set at $300,000 cash.
Ruffhouse Records, Sigel’s label, released the following statement:
“Obviously, we’re very disappointed…However, Beanie has done nothing but display the utmost professionalism in all the initiatives related to the promotion of his new release. Beanie obviously has been struggling with some personal issues, and we continue to support him now and throughout his impending incarceration.”
