Survivor Philippines Episode 7 Recap, The Merge

Yes, time for the Survivor Philippines Episode 7 recap! As predicted last week, the show last night revolved around ′The Merge′ as Kalabawa and Tandang Tribes combined. The show begins on Night 16 after Kalabawa Tribe returns from Tribal Council. Denise is very happy that Katie was voted off and not her. Jonathan Penner was unhappy that Katie voted to boot him after he thought he had her convinced that Denise was the target. He now suspects that he may become a target himself.

Day 17 and at Tandang Tribe, Michael Skupin recounts his tale of how he fell in the fire during Season 2 in Australia. It was on Day 17 which that happened. The Merge came the very next day. Mike and the others are surprised to see Jeff Probst approaching their beach in a large, motorized outrigger canoe. They have just ten minutes to gather up their belongings! Yep, its The Merge! A similar boat arrives at Kalabawa Tribe and off they all go to their new home.

All 11 happy campers arrive at a new beach and find a feast awaiting them. There is the initial goodwill and cheery chat. Jeff Ghent is glad that nobody seems to know that he was a major league baseball player. Lisa decides to do laundry while the others work on the new shelter. She discovers a hidden immunity idol in Malcolm′s bag. He sees it all and talks with Denise about it. Malcolm then chats with Lisa, who promises not to spill the beans. He offers her a slot in the Final Three, but Lisa is suspicious.

Day 18 and Jonathan recognizes Lisa as a former TV star. He promises not to tell the others about it. He then starts chatting up Mike about forming a new alliance. Kalabawa is outnumbered 7 to 4, so they need to flip at least two members of Tandang. Mike and RC seem to be potential flippers. But the others have a differnet idea in mind. Led by Pete and Abi, they try to convince Jeff and Carter to help them boot Mike, RC and Jonathan. A plan to split their vote 4-4 against RC and Jonathan is hatched.

Day 19 and its time for the first Individual Immunity Challenge! As usual it is to be a test of physical endurance with one man and one woman to win immunity. The event is to hold a suspended bucket filled with one-quarter of each player′s body weight. After 5 minutes, Mike is out followed by Pete. Then Jonathan, Lisa and Malcolm go. RC gives up followed by Abi, leaving Denise as the female winner of immunity. Artis, Jeff and Carter then duke it out. After Artis quits, Jeff and Carter battle past the 25-minute mark. They cut a deal and Jeff surrenders immunity to Carter.

Back at camp, the scramble begins. Mike feels the pressure of being a veteran player and a target. He talks with Jeff who tells him that Jonathan is the one to beware of. Mike is worried that if RC and he did switch sides, it would not help as Jeff and Carter appear to be switching, too. Jeff and Carter discuss their options as Jonathan interrupts their conversation. Jon wants Pete to be the target. Jeff is concerned that if he does switch, he may still wind up on the bottom of his new alliance.

At Tribal Council, Jeff Probst congratulates the Tandang members for being the first tribe to avoid Tribal Council before a merge. Denise is very happy to feel safe for the first time after seven-straight Tribal Councils. Cracks in the old Tandang Tribe appear as Abi and RC argue with each other. Accusations of betrayal fly. Lisa tells Probst that flipping does not always pay off as you are now seen as disloyal. Pete says that the veteran players do not deserve to win. Jeff Ghent raises his concerns of flipping and still being the outside guy in a new alliance. More talk of betrayals and blindsides as it becomes time to vote.

We see Abi vote for Jonathan, Artis vote for RC and both Jonathan and RC voting for Pete. Before Jeff Probst tallies the votes, Jonathan decides to play his idol. Good move as he got 5 votes! RC got 4 and Pete only got the 2. So RC is the first member of The Jury. Thus ends our Survivor Philippines recap of Episode 7. Spoilers for next week show that Jonathan is now all alone against the world. Can he survive?
